Essay #1 Final Draft
A laptop is a mobile version of a desktop computer or tower. It can also be referred to as a mobile personal computer or a notebook. A computer is an electronic device for storing and processing data. A laptop has many components similar to a computer such as central processing unit (CPU), Memory (RAM), Power supply, internal storage, and input/output devices (such as keyboard, mice, speakers, printer). There are different classes of laptops like desktop replacement, midsize, ultraportable, thin-and-light, and tablet PC (“authority”). Within each class of laptop there are different types such as gaming laptops, general purpose laptops, business laptops, and media center laptops. A laptop can be used for many things including business, gaming, media, general everyday needs, and much more.
A computer is an electronic device that uses binary form to store and process data.
A computer has multiple components, some of which are the arithmetic logic unit (ALU), the control unit, the memory, the power supply, internal storage, and the input and output devices such as keyboard or printer. These components are all connected by buses. Inside of each component are many tiny electrical circuits which can be turned on and off. Each circuit symbolizes a bit. When the circuit is on it symbolizes a 1 and when it is off it symbolizes a 0. The arithmetic logic unit performs two types of operations, arithmetic and logic. The control unit reads and decodes the program instructions into binary to communicate with other parts of the computer. A computer’s main memory is the random access memory (RAM). Random access memory is temporary storage where both the data and instructions are held while they are being processed. The power supply for a laptop takes alternating current (AC) and turns it into direct current (DC) (“Guide”). Internal storage in a computer is either a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD). Laptop HDD are 2.5 or 1.8 inches (“Guide”).The main input devices are keyboards and mice. The main output devices are a monitor and a printer.
There are various classes of laptops such as desktop replacement, midsize, thin-and-light, ultra-portable, and tablet PC. An ultraportable laptop is a small and light laptop. Generally it weighs four pounds or less. An ultraportable laptop is very compact. They have smaller screens, and keyboards to fit in a smaller case. The most common ultraportable laptop is a netbook, which is used mainly for just web browsing. A midsize laptop is for basic everyday use. They weigh six to eight pounds. Thin-and-light is a combination of the midsize and the ultraportable laptop. The thin-and-light weigh four to six pounds. A desktop replacement is the largest type of laptop. It is the most like a desktop or a tower, it weighs seven pounds or more. This type of laptop generally does not leave the house and is used for room to room needs (“cnet”). A tablet PC is the most mobile and compact type of laptop. A tablet PC has a very long battery life.
A laptop is a computer that has different types within each class such as gaming laptops, general purpose laptops, business laptops, and media center laptops (“pcmag”). A media center laptop is similar to an entertainment center. With this type of laptop one can enjoy television, music, videos and viewing photos. A media center laptop has a fast processor, moderately sized screen, good graphics card, and at least one large hard drive. A gaming laptop, as its name depicts, is for gaming. A gaming computer has a large screen and high specifications. A general purpose laptop is decent at everything. It can play games, movies, or even be used to just browse the web. A general purpose laptop is an average laptop—neither top of the line nor lower performance. A business laptop is a durable laptop with different features depending upon what your job requires. They tend to have more security features such as facial recognition, finger print scanners, or even voice recognition.
A laptop is a scaled down mobile version of a desktop or tower computer with multiple classes. A computer is a device that uses binary to store and process data. Every computer has many components including the arithmetic logic unit (ALU), the control unit, the memory, the power supply, the internal storage, and the input and output devices. A laptop is a computer with a variety of types within of each class. Some of the most popular types are gaming laptops, business laptops, media laptops, and general use laptops. A laptop computer ranges in price from $100-$6000.

#1 You do not have a thesis statement. You do not have one, clear sentence with a three-part plan.
ReplyDeletei'm in a computer class here at fcc and your essay really helped me to better understand what ceratin parts of the computer are. this was a outstanding paper!! great job!!
ReplyDelete#2 Since you do not have an actual thesis statement, your topic sentences do not refer back to anything except your first paragraph. It's supposed to refer back to one sentence.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cathy.
ReplyDeleteJosiah both my thesis statement and plan are in my first paragraph.
#3 For the most part, it was well written and easy to understand. There were a couple parts that were a little confusing because of the grammar use, but overall, you did a good job at explaining your subject.
ReplyDelete#4 I understood your essay, but the second to last sentence seems to have an extra word. I believe you add the word 'of' at the end of the sentence "A laptop is a computer with a variety of types within of each class."
ReplyDelete#5 For your first essay, you did a good job at explaining your points. Your essay would obviously need more explaining and development if it were to be your last essay to write.
ReplyDelete#6 I do not know if there was anything you left out for your topic because I do not have much knowledge of computers. I did learn more from your essay though. Thank-you for the work you did and increasing my knowledge of computers.
